Curly hair, apart from looking beautiful and sexy, takes some extra effort to keep them tamed. It can become dry and damaged, especially if unsuitable products are used. Even something as basic as the shampoo can make a huge difference to the condition of the hair. The best shampoos are often those with natural ingredients, however, organic products can be expensive, so others may choose to use more mainstream products.
Hair breakage is the biggest challenge faced with curly hair. This is because the uneven distribution of cuticle on the hair causes fiber friction in between leading them to breakage and forming of knots. Make sure to properly detangle the hair before washing, first detangle hair from the tip gradually up to the root. One sure tool to assist with detangling those long thick curls is the Ultimate Detangler. This tool – and long hair essential – possesses anti-static nylon bristles that smooths out kinks and reduces static. Additionally when used in tandem with your blow-dryer, the ONYC® Ultimate Detangler creates a groomed and sleek look.
The Ultimate Detangler:
For additional softness, mix warm water and conditioner throughout this phase. In most cases, conditioner should be applied before washing with shampoo in order to pre-treat the hair or weave. Remember that one tangled knot will end up creating a tangled web once wet!
Apply a clarifying shampoo at least once a week. It is very important to remove old product buildup from your hair. Clarifying shampoo will help you achieve that as it removes all Oils, butters, grease, wax and silicone coat from the hair shaft. Make sure to wash your hair in one direction to avoid matting.
A further way to keep curly hair looking their best is through adequate conditioning. For the best results, a conditioner should provide the hair with moisture without adding grease which weighs the hair down and make it appear lifeless. Products specifically designed to provide curly hair with the maximum moisture are good. Apply a generous amount of it.
While the conditioner is in the hair, detangling should be completed with a wide tooth comb then finish with thinner tooth comb or brush to ensure proper detangling of the hair. Rinse some of the conditioner but leaving some behind.
It is also a good idea to treat the hair with a deep conditioner/moisturizer once a weekly. The best treatments contain oils such as coconut, jojoba, olive and almond.
The styling process can now begin. curly hair requires a leave-in conditioner or moisturizer while the hair is still wet. For a more shine and tamed look, add a generous drops of Demorin Smoothing Serum, a silicone based serum, to your moisturizer or leave-in conditioner before applying to hair to ensure even distribution.
Scrunch the hair to induce the curls. Seat, relax and patiently wait to air dry while scrunching at intervals…
For a set of popping ONYC® signature curls, complete the look by using the Ultimate Diffuser once the hair is about 80% dry.
The Ultimate Diffuser:
Note: Do not play with hair while wet, otherwise, it will become very frizzy and super full. This hair has been processed to mimic natural curl which naturally goes in different directions. Wetting it will create a somewhat more uniform curl.
